Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Sarah Petite

                          painter

"I’m a medium-oriented artist, and encaustic paint (hot beeswax & pigment) has been my study for the last twenty years. Recently I turned an overdue page and went abstract. I felt that images were wasted on this wonderful paint. “Game Theory” is based aesthetically on the classic game boards, and hopes to comment in metaphor on our human (and solitary) interactions, strategies, bargains, our cheating and deceiving, our races and contests, our big decisions."

Biography:
Sarah Petite lives and works in two Maritime locations; Fredericton, New Brunswick (short winter) and Port Maitland, Nova Scotia, on the Fundy shore (long summer). Both places have active studios, where Sarah produces her encaustic paintings.
Petite has made a twenty year study of encaustic paint, mixed in her studio from beeswax and pigment. Self-taught, she has explored its virtuosity through trials, experiments, and happy accidents, to the point where it performs many feats in paintings with their own unique, lustrous presence. She has shared her knowledge of this medium through many classes and workshops.
Sarah Petite’s work can be seen in several public collections, including the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick art banks, and the Canada Council Art Bank.
