Incorporated in 1979, the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Co-operative is a non-profit, charitable organization involved in the production and advancement of media arts in the province. It provides broad-ranging support (workshops/training, creative support and mentoring, grant writing assistance, equipment, human resources, socials, and informal writer/director/actor labs. It also presents films and videos through its annual provincial Silver Wave Film Festival, Monday Night Film Series and Under the Stars outdoor film series.
The Co-op is a fully equipped film/video centre open to anyone who is 16 years of age and older interested in developing skills in film/video production. Its equipment resource includes: 16mm and Super 16mm film cameras, as well as high definition and standard definition video camera packages, professional audio and lighting gear and nonlinear picture and sound editing suites.
It offers an open, friendly environment with various networking activities and socials throughout the year. It provides education and training in the art of film/video making, offering a broad range of affordable workshops and courses.
It also offers Kid’s film camps every summer. Production programs are available that support first-time, as well as accomplished and experienced filmmakers.
The Co-op maintains a crew and actor database and many other useful resources. Its membership spans the province and it regularly undertakes outreach efforts to reach artists who are members of under-served communities. It publishes a weekly e-news bulletin to over 4,000 people.
