ABOUT THE ART :

Rooneys practice is a carefully choreographed series of contrasts between many materials, approaches and intentions. The handmade and unique marks of drawing, meet the mechanically reproduced mark. These are intermingled with other obscure mark-making processes, such as biting. The techniques employed to construct the work are screenprint , etching, embossing and digital giclée print processes.

The subject of the work is the theatrical element of everyday life. The Images used are The Ventriloquists Dummy, The Mouth, and The Circus Performers.

Rooneys approach is distinguished by the unique layering of imagery. It is playful and dramatic, challenging the frame, breaking beyond the frame and even out of the realm of the two dimensional. It fractures the mould of what can be done with printmaking.
