BIOGRAPHY
Barbara Safran is known for her vibrant landscapes and Maritime themes. Her artwork appears in various private and public collections such as the Town of Riverview Council Chambers, the Moncton Hospital and the New Brunswick Art Bank. A skilled watercolourist, Barbara enjoys painting on location in all four seasons, weather permitting. The versatility of acrylics on canvas makes it another ideal medium for Barbara’s work.
Barbara has been painting the Petitcodiac River for the past year in addition to painting other landscapes, portraits, musicians and pets.
Barbara Safran’s artwork has been developing for more than thirty years. As an art student, Barbara worked primarily in intaglio printmaking and watercolour. She became established as a Maritime artist when her watercolour “Approaching Showers” appeared on the cover
of the NBTel directory shortly after her graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction from Mount Allison University.
Barbara completed her Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and then went on to paint studies of masters at the National
Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Tate Gallery in London, England as part of her training.
While employed as an Art Specialist and French teacher with School District 02/15 in Moncton, Barbara continued to paint and exhibit her work in various solo and group shows. Highlights of this period (from 1979 - 2009) include the establishment of Barbara Safran Studios and its web site featuring the first on-line art lessons to appear on the internet, special projects such as ‘ Printemps Acadien’ of the Memramcook Valley
displayed at le Musée Acadien during les Retrouvailles 1994, and ‘ Our Proud Past-King Street 1903-1953 completed for the Moncton Hospital’s 100th anniversary. Barbara was nominated for the prestigious Strathbutler Award in 1999. Her painting ‘Taking Flight’ was
exhibited in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Moncton in 2002 and ‘At Attention’ of the RCMP Musical Ride in Riverview was donated by Brian Forbes and his family to the Town of Riverview Council Chambers in 2004.

Les paysages et les oeuvres réalistes de Barbara Safran sont connus pour leur vivacité et
pour leurs thèmes des Provinces Maritimes. Ses tableaux font partie des collections privées
et publiques tel que la Ville de Riverview Chambre du Conseil, l’ Hôpital de Moncton et
la Banque d’ oeuvres d’art du Nouveau Brunswick. Une artiste accomplie en aquarelles,
Barbara aime travailler en plein air en toute saison selon les conditions climatiques.
Les peintures acryliques sont assez versatiles à les rendre idéelles pour son oeuvre. Barbara
a peint la Rivière Petitcodiac durant cette année et elle a aussi complété d’autres paysages,
des portraits, des oeuvres de musiciens et des animaux.
L’oeuvre de Barbara Safran a développé au long de plus de trente ans. Quand elle était
étudiante, elle produisait des images à la gravure et aux aquarelles. Son tableau
« Approches des averses » l’a établie comme artiste régionale quand il a apparu sur la
couverture de l’annuaire téléphonique NBTel bientôt après sa graduation avec un
Baccalauréat des Arts Visuels avec Distinction de Mount Allison University. Barbara a
complété son Baccalauréat d’ Éducation à l’ Université de Toronto and ensuite elle a peint
des études des maîtres à la Galerie Nationale à Washington, D.C. et à la Galerie Tate à
Londres, Angleterre au but de finir son entraînement.
Pendant ses années comme Spécialiste des arts visuels et Enseignante de français dans le
District Scolaire 02/15 à Moncton, Barbara continuait de peindre et d’exposer ses oeuvres
solo et en groupes. Les événements importants de cette période (de 1979 à 2009) incluent
l’établissement de Barbara Safran Studios et le site web qui présentait les premières leçons
d’art à apparaître en ligne sur la Toile, des projets spéciaux comme le tableau ‘ Printemps
Acadien’ de la vallée de Memramcook en exposition au Musée Acadien à l’ Université de
Moncton pendant les Retrouvailles 1994 et ‘Our Proud Past - King Street 1903-1953’
commandé pour le centenaire de l’ Hôpital de Moncton. Barbara a été nominée pour le
