Board Biographies 2010


Artslink NB Board of Directors 2009/10
Kathy Hamer (President) worked at Mount Allison as Dean of Arts and Vice President
at UNB. As well as her new role with ArtsLink, Kathy serves on numerous Boards
including the NB Museum and the NB Youth Orchestra. Kathy is a published author and
is fluently bilingual.

Maggie McLaughlin (past-President) was ArtsLinkʼs driving force from 2005- 2009,
gathering information, funding and interest from around the province to bring ArtsLink to
its current operational phase. Maggie is a visual artist and continues to help direct and
shape ArtsLink.

Peter Powning (Vice President) is a professional artist working with many different
media in the visual arts discipline. Peter works out of his studios in Markhamville near
Sussex; his work is exhibited internationally.

Andy Scott (Treasurer) Frederictonʼs MP from 1993 to 2007 shares his awareness
and knowledge of political systems, contacts and public processes. Andy currently
works at UNB and sits on many Boards including thePremierʼs Roundtable for Self-
Sufficiency.


Michael Wennberg (Secretary) is a retired lawyer, and very active in the Saint John
Arts scene. Mike worked on Saint Johnʼs recent successful bid to be named a Cultural
Capital in 2010, and sits on the Board of many Saint John arts organizations.

Thaddeus Holownia is a world-renown photographer, recipient of numerous arts and
teaching awards and head of the Fine Arts Department at Mount Allison University.

Susan Chalmers Gauvin is the CEO of the Atlantic Ballet in Moncton, and a powerful
arts advocate, with extensive expertise in organizational development, strategic
planning, research evaluation and government policy.

Kara Stonehouse is the Manager of Brand and Integrated Marketing at UNB, and was
deeply involved with Performing Arts NB. She has previously acted as general manager
of Symphony New Brunswick, has a background in international music industry and a
BBA in Music Business. Kara lives near Saint John.

Adrienne Elfner-Hazen has taught visual arts in schools and privately, and assisted
with arts development in Bathurst for the past 20 years. She is a founding member of
the artist co-op in Bathurst.

Donovan Richard has been instrumental in building the film community in Moncton, as
an emerging film-maker, juror, teacher and volunteer. He is also active in the AHA and
the NB Film Co-op. Donovan is fluently bilingual.

Michele Turgeon Since 1996, Michele has operated the Gallerie La Violette in
Edmunston. A professional painter photographer and iconographer, Michele has been
active with many arts organizations including lʼAAAPNB. Michele is fluently bilingual.

Caleb Marshall is a New Brunswick actor, writer and director who has traveled the
world developing his craft. He is currently the Artistic Director of Theatre New
Brunswick. TNB’s mandate includes a provincial vision for theatre that lends itself to the
broad scope of ArtsLink NB.

David Adams is a professional musician. Originally from Winnipeg, David is currently
the principal violinist of the Saint John String Quartet, concert master for Symphony
New Brunswick and Atlantic Sinfonia and music director for the Fredericton Chamber
Orchestra.

Rayanne Brennan is a professional writer and currently the president of the New Brunswick Writer's Federation. She lives in Moncton.

Advisors (non-voting)

Kate Rogers is the past Executive Director of the NB Crafts Council, and currently
operates an independent Arts Consulting firm. Kate was instrumental in producing
ArtsLink NBʼs original work plan and operating documents.

Karen Leblanc helped create ArtsLink from the ground up, finding consultants and
writing funding proposals to bring ArtsLink to the operational stage. Karen is a
professional artist and past-president of the NB Crafts Council and works with the
Aboriginal Work Development Initiative.
